Thousands of people are fighting for freedom in Nepal, like 2046 BS. I see the history repeat itself. After 2007 BS, there have been many revolutions in order to restore peace and prosperity. Each and every movement was successful to its content but only thing we didn;t see was peace and prosperity. Regime, government and public are in a three -way highway, I think. Lets say, the king is ousted and the multiparty system is restored or Maoists take over, what about the Nepal and its people? Can we hope for any progress or we are gonna go back to same state of poverty and corruption?
It is just a thought provoking question that I haven't seen much talked about. I hope we can discuss this issue in our most comprehensive and intelligent manner, without realying any disdain for the posters. I urge all of the sajha frequenters to post their notions and I also urge those who might not support others' ideas to post their ideas and dissents in an orderly fashion. I hope we can keep this issue clean and without any conflict of interest (as we generally tend to do).

this question has been bothering me greatly in recent days actaully. when two groups have a common enemy, they become friends. same thing happened in nepal. the king was an enemy to both teh maoists and teh parties. so they two united under a common cause. the king's days are numbered and he will be ousted soon. then can we expect the maoists and the SPA to continue their alliance????????
as much as i would like to think so, i doubt that it might happen. for now, my only hope is that maoists stick to thier promises and work in concordance with the peoples. but what if they dont? what if they choose to establish a communist rgime and the parties want a multiparty democracy???? then it is downhilll again...even a worse conflict i fear.

The very valid point from you, however, is our bane. NO matter what, we are doomed. Allegiance of the SPA and Maoists will be a doom, Royal monarchy is already a pain and as detrimental as it could ever had been. As you say, after the king is ousted, there might be a conflict within the SPA and Maoists allegiance, which, given the history, is inevitable. Or maybe not. But if the SPA gains the control, I guess, it is the same history being repeated. Corruption, abuse of power and internal conflict may only hinder the growth and progress. And if Maoists happen to hold the power, CHINA and the cultural revolution is not that old a history. SO, I guess, the aftermaths are as hideous and appalling as the present situation is. Republic is the only way out for the people of Nepal, I have heard many people say that. I hope that is one possible outcome, but in order to achieve that, are the measures taken at present, in any form, supportive to the notion? Or is it only another row of revolution and martyrdom rendered futile by the oppositions and internal conflicts within the governing body, at present and in the future?
This is something we have to think about. Are we fighting for the right cause? Or can we make it right by fighting for the causes that could be assayed now and at present? Future is bleak and obscure. I hope we don't end up at the crossroads of 2007 and 2046 BS. I hope 2063 will be another dawn in the history, a year and the number synonymous to the chivalry and pride of Nepal, as well as the progressive chapter in the wake of new Nepal.

We want peace and stability in the country. It comes only from dialog and compromise. That was the case with Maoists even though some of us didn't like them. It is the case with the King even though some of us want him out.

King, parties and Maoists all are responsible for the current mess. All had their chances to prove that wrong. They failed miserably. Maoists walked out from peace talks during their prime time and their down-hill slide began. King had chance to bring all factions on the table but he didn't put any effort. Parties were simply disgusting because of their power-hungry mentality. They must have realized that by now.

What now? We need to stop dreaming and come to reality. We need to learn to live with what we have – i.e., King, Parties, Maoists. We can't change everything that we don't like. However, we can improve as we go along. These two weeks of demonstrations are great achievements for that matter. All three power pillars have learnt their lessons.

1. Parties: They have lost trust and respect of people. There was no participation of public when parties organized programs. They are now part of the protest demonstration but not the leaders. So, their future is uncertain.

2. Maoists: They have seen effective peaceful demonstrations throughout the country. It would be a great challenge for them to justify armed struggle. Moreover, how would they handle if similar demonstrations are staged against them? Without arms there is not much to talk about the Maoists.

3. King: He had such an opportunity to bring all factions on the same table and sort out things for a better Nepal. People gave him full year without any hindrances. He simply chose to go a wrong way. Result? For now, he devaluated the meaning of a beautiful word 'The King'.

I have high regards for all three power pillars. I'm glad they are trying to turn things around. But, things are so messed up its not easy for anybody. If they come to a compromising point as an improved king, improved parties and improved Maoists, out dream can come true. I'm confident that recent scenarios have made them all better.

Prolonging war doesn't bring peace and stability. It only brings chaos and uncertainty. For that reason I never thought of government-collapse in two weeks even though I'm not fond of the King. For the love of my country I'm praying that King's government should not collapse. If my country's government collapses in two weeks then we are in serious trouble. Things would be so easy in the future to topple governments. Insiders and outsiders can take advantages because of that weakness. If the King who has full support of police and army fails, what would happen to others who never gained their support? Most of us were very happy when Girija dissolved the parliament. Later, Deuba and Man Mohan followed the same path. We have witnessed 12 different governments in 14 years. Let's not go back to the same circle. 3 Pillars have learnt their lessons. It's time we do the same. King, parties, and Maoists are going nowhere. Let's deal with it. However, King has to go back to palace as constitutional monarch, and Maoists should give up arms struggle. Our role should be to put pressure on all sides for a peaceful resolution.

history is not a good enough guide anymore

these are new times

and new times deserve, heck, demand new thinking

those stuck in the past will be forgotten by history itself
