An interesting question was posed to me today. Thought I'd post it here and see what folks here would think of it: If you are approaching age 40, is it too late to join an MBA program? I am not talking about one of those Blue Chip MBA programs like Wharton or Stern. The type of programs in consideration is more of mid-tier... like that of UCLA's Anderson or Rice's Jones... or even lower tier like Monmouth or Strayer. I would like to get an MBA, but am not sure whether to do it now or later. Decisions, decisions, decisions....

hey guys..the Cambridge College once a month class program is awesome specially for working adults like yourselves. Rest of the weeks you can stay at home and study @ your pace with online course and tutorials. Free laptops to do that too. No books required. There are several Cambridge Colleges around US. Virginia, Marlboro Boston, Cambridge College Boston, CA and more. So login to the CC banner placed at sajha.com for more info for Master's programs. Do not forget to mention this "Sajha" site and / or San's name while making comments or asking questions. Thanks.

I think les not twist the fact. Nobody does MBA to better your education for oneself..maybe to better your green sheets! Similarly people who are doing phd, are merely doing it cause they didn't know what else to do :).

Here's how I look at it: Learning for the sake of learning is good at any age. But, most likely, you will be doing MBA for more than that, and especially for one particular reason. Yes, to make more money!!! So, given the fact that you will be spending something in tune of $200K for your MBA, not counting the opportunity cost, you should consider how much of an ROI will there be. Say you become a freshly minted MBA when you are 40, you still have 25 years (assuming you retire at 65) to get back that money and lot more. So logic dictates it should be a viable project. Now, there are equally interesting alternatives to getting MBA and joining corporate rat race, but that's another story.

sgy, thank you for doing the calculation (O: hmm.. how about this bachelors in 22. first masters in 28. second masters in 29. Phd in 32. and mba in 40. start evaluating opportunity costs and $$$ spent in education. this person is a sure nuts (O: he has no value for money. (O: and obviously has no money. he is in a virtual desire to accumulate degrees... hoina ta. see if you want to calculate return (ROI) (in terms of education) then its a lost cause. I will give you an example. Average cost/yr for Bachelors $25k/yr = $100k now let's assume that someone went to a technical school and did plumbing and/or electrician he will have to start as a apprentice. they get paid like $15/hr. assume that he worked just regular hours for first four years. $15*2080*4=$124,800 (i.e. $31,200/yr) while the person with bachelors is in hole for $100k this person with plumbing/electrician work already made $124,800 Now, after graduating from bachelors assume that he starts with 50k with benefits. thats like 65k in real terms. This apprentice takes L1/L2 license. then he makes now $75/hr. @ minimum makes $50/hrs hmm. regular work ($50*2080)=$104,000/yr i know that in time the person with bachelors will rise up to $104k lets say in 5 years. and this apprentice gets no hike in his pay. so in 9 years this person with high school education and some technical training he took in high school is ahead by (124,800 + 39k*5 + 100k) = 419,000 hmm. so figure out your self how long its going to take for the poor guy to catch up (O: so interms of finance is it(education) ever a good INVESTMENT? I am all ears.. if you can explain to me (O:
