definitely indian, but we still share lots of cultural thing with india. Even our language is derived from sanskrit. So you can say we are two brother with same culture , same intelligence, more or less sharing same genes living in two distinct territory. we are the one who has inherited our own land and never been ruled by others which makes us feel proud but this doesn't mean that we are doing better than them.

Daal, bhat and tarkari are common in South Asia. In some portions of India, especially  north, roti is more commonly eaten than rice. Anyway the specific combination - "Daal Bhat Tarkari", as it is said, is common in Nepal, but it's definitely not unique to Nepal only.

There is no indian or nepali food.

Our food is designed by nature according to availability of natural sources, climate and altitude.

Tamamg eat Dhendo, Newar eat Chiura, Madhesi eat Chapati.

In India too, they have many combination of starch and vitamin depends on where you live.

Chole Bature Puri in north India to Masala Dosa in south.

In US too, they do not have particular American food.

In Alaska Eskimos eat mainly raw fish,

In Texas Barbeque and Grilled burgers

In North US they eat more dumplings and scandvians styled meat balls with white sauces.

In east-coast they eat more french styled Augratin.

In mid-west they eat more Porkchops, ribs and corn.

In Arizona they eat more Hispanic ..chilli con carne  and grilled turkey legs..

So there is nothing common food except Hamburger..

So what is American, Indian and Nepali Food???

Hello,

Your question reminds me a Indian dude who was of  the opinion that Vishnu, Shiva are Indian god and he was asking me why I dont worship Nepali god If i am a Nepali. I asked him how come these gods are Indian god? He replied don't you know they speak Hindi, they ware clothes like Indians. Poor guy was too much influenced by Bollywood films, he thought thoses gods speak Hindi. It is exactly same as saying Jesus is a English god because in Holywood films Jesus speaks english.

In south India they eat different types of food namely, Dosa, Edly Uttapam, Samber (similar to daal), they rarley eat plain rice as we do in nepal, instead hey eat termeric rice, lime rice, emly rice. These food are called south indian food ( not indian food).
In Punjab and Hariyana area they eat mainly chapati/rooti with tarkari and sometime daal. In Asam area they eat different type of food.
The so called "Indian food" like Naan, Biriyani, Tanduri Chicken, Palak panir, Curry, Pulawoo rice,  as served in most of the so called "Indian resturant " are  mix of Mughal food and Arabic food. If you ask any Indian he will say that those are indian food.
According to Rice research Institute per capita consuption of irce in India is arround 70kg while in Nepal it is 92 kg ( for exact figure please Google it out)
Regarding the origin of rice I want to quote following

"According to Chang(1976), domestication of rice in Asia may have occurred independently at about same time in many places along a broad belt extending from the Ganges Plains below the eastern foothills of the Himalayas, across northern Burma, northern Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, to Southwest and South China. Japanese analysis on variations in isoenzymic genotypes in native rice varieties showed that the center of genetic diversity exists in the area of Assam India and Yunnan China (Nakagahra and Hayashi 1977). Therefore They concluded that the area is the origin of cultivated rice and it was broadly accepted up to early 1990s. However Korean archaeologist Ahn Sung-Mo insisted in his book(1999) that middle and lower Yangtze river is the origin of cultivated rices based on the earliest archaeological evidences in China.

The problem with Hindi speaking Indian dudes are they watch too much Indian  TV and I ahve found Indian TVs are mostly like Bill O'Rielys presenttation of Fox news channel. In other words most of the Indians have problem of diversity of knowledge although they have good knowledge for the work.

After saying all these now it is clear that rice is not only an Indian food it is a universal food like bread and the combination of Daal, Bhat,Tarkari is a Nepali style of staple food which resembles more to the food eaten in West Bengal and Bangladesh.

You can agrue it etiher way. Living in the same territory and migrated from Uttar pradesh, we  share almost every thing.  As the we moved, we have to change according to the situation and availability of resources. Botton line it  came along with us as moved to northern part, Kingdom of Himalyas.

Spagetti is Chinese food, yes it is. But as it reached to Italy it shaped differently and used differently which is diluted in their own culture.  And it became as icon to Italy.

If you add gundruk no one claim on it.

Dont give upp...dal bhat tarkari is Nepali Food... Keep on fighting untill he agrees its nepali food..

All i know is dal ,bhat ,tarkari is nepali food and no one else has combination of that food with same taste as we doo...they might eat similar food with different taste...

First, Rice is major food for all asian country except indians who enjoy roti..(so it is not indian food)

Dal, is soup to mix with bhat for nepalese whereas..indians has thick dal and is more like tarkari ....

i dnt knw if indian calls it tarkari but everybody else in the world eat similar vegetables/curry like nepalese.that dont mean everyone in this world are eating indian food.

..plus indians tarkari are too hot its more khursani than tarkari

It is 100% Nepali National food. Daal Bhaat tarkari. Tastes different too from the Indian version. ROTI is Indias national food but many places in india has rice daal and sabji too. and some part of Nepal also has roti as a staple..................SO my conclusion..the debate can go bothways.......... Like what bahunkto says that many cultures in many countries share the same dishes. its just Nepal has a variety of dishes staple to us and so do the Indians...........BUT cooking method and spices used can be different. I have eaten in many indian restaurants and the way they cook and tastes is completely different from our Nepalses version.....which for me is better tasting.

oi sale bhate haru. dal bhaat is not dhoti ko food. they have roti ni. why do they say "do wakt ki roti " and not"do wakt ki dal bhaat"?? why do they have movies with names such as" roti, kapad aur makan' and not" dal bhaat, kapada and makan"?? makes sense guys??

so dal bhaat tarkari=nepali food

Rice is the main food of the world. Most of the people eat rice everyday. North Indians main food is rooti whereas South Indians is rice. My south Indians friends were surpised to hear that Nepalese eat rice everyday. But they make different varieties of rice like leamon rice, coconut rice etc.

Our food is very similar to Kenya's food. They cooked exactly the same way as we do. Same seasonings. Same taste.I liked it when my roomate cooked.

Dal bhat tarkari all combined together is nodoubt an uthetic Nepali food.

Indians eat jeera chawal or something like pulau with peas and onions and lots of ghee(butter). Thais eat rice too so did other Asians. But with daal and tarakari,it's only we eat.
