Hello,
My OPT is going to end soon and I don't have any job offer right now. I have already completed my masters. I was thinking of joining a community college in a certificate level course to remain in status. I was wondering if it is possible to join community college after you are done with your masters and would the college provide me with F1 visa? Please any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You may join community college near by you, but make no mistake to contact the International Adviser as soon as possible. I mean; don't wait till the last minute to get I20 issue. Some colleges don't accept since you already have Masters which results in finding other colleges. If you have valid visa, you can even visit Nepal though there are rumors like you can't visit which is for some unlucky person. Reg ards

Hi Pinkey, i am in similar position as yours. But I am on OPT extension. I have had enough of this job search, companies not filing H1s and all and want to go back to school. I also want to join a community college for time being so that I don't have to worry about status and later apply to good college. Did you have any luck with your college joining. If yes please let me know. that would really be helpful.

Guys, I have same situation that I am graduating in Masters Health care management on May 2010. But I took my Pre-completion OPT for 1 year and will end July 2010. After that, I may need to join college to maintain status. But, If have taken 1 year Pre-opt; that is 6 month deducted from Post-OPT. So, Can I still file for another 6 month Post-completion OPT after graduation? Your great suggestion, information will be highly appreciable.

@1nepali- Why don't you contact your international student office about this. They will be able to answer your question correctly. If you graduate in May 2010 and your Pre-completion OPT started in July 2009, you will have used 10(approx.) months of OPT time. Your pre-completion OPT ends in May 2010(completion date of your master's requirements). You can get 2 months of post-completion OPT after that (the total OPT time, including pre and post OPT, is 12 months unless u r in STEM)

@ Sabkosathi: Thank you so much for your information. But, I am confused for period my Post-completion OPT. If I took one year Pre OPT; that equals 6 month Post OPT, or It may be different in this situation. Would you please share your informations.. Thank you again.

" If I took one year Pre OPT; that equals 6 month Post OPT" who told you this? As far as I know, 1 year of Pre-OPT = 1 year of Post-OPT; meaning if you have taken 1 year of Pre-OPT, you don't get any regular Post-OPT. I was told that "the total OPT time, including pre and post OPT, is 12 months unless u r in STEM" I don't have any personal experience with Pre-OPT so you might want to talk to the international student office to double-check the info I provided.. Good luck!!
