WTF , don't he know its going to be in his record forever and he is fked up !! Judge is referring him to hospital ? why ? Was he on drug when he was arrested ? Is he mentally OK?? Hire lawyer on your own , don't depend on government lawyer. I smell something fishy !

Cab driver should know where is his destination, once he reached the destination he should have awaken him, he let the meter run. That is kind of scam.

I don't want to be 'that mean guy' here but let me tell you something. A lot of these didn't make sense to me. Your roommate was at work, makes sense. But you were in college at 4 AM? That too when your friend came in town all the way from Michigan to see you? That's a red flag right there. Moreover, how can the fare go up to $150 just because one falls asleep in the cab? What the f**k was the driver doing all that while? Another story, debit card got declined but he tried to use the ATM machine with that same debit card that was declined earlier? Hopefully our guy wasn't expecting a teller to be at the bank at 4 AM. Also, I don't think people get sent to a correctional facility for a 'crime' of that level. I'm not even sure if we can call it a crime here. Unless this question was posted (as URGENT) to get attention from readers, I don't see much truthfulness to it. If not, I have sympathy for your friend. Please get a good lawyer. Jay Nepal!!

You will need a legal help on this one. First of all, is he a student? You might want to reach out to his school and see if the Foreign Student department can help. If its a big UNI, they might have a law department. I know this way the school will know of his arrest, but if he is not guilty of anything then he shouldn't be worried. If he is not a student, you might want to reach out to a lawyer. If money is the issue then see if there is a non-profit legal advisary group in the area. Telephone consultation is free for many lawyers, so may be you can even call some lawyers. It's strange that he got jailed for not willing to pay alone. Are you sure you have the full story?

So he left when I was at college and my roommate was at work. But the time he got arrested was 4 a.m. according to the police report. He had been staying at our place for a month, so of course we not gonna keep tabs on him every second of his life. He used to go places on his own, so we weren't worried. So I am guessing he left during daytime of Friday, took the cab at night and fell asleep the whole night? How am I supposed to know. Probably the driver didn't wake him up to get lot of money on the meter. Well, he probably went thinking he could withdraw money from his savings account using the debit, because checkings is linked with the debit card. Correctional facility is basically jail, that's where people get sent that are not bailed out in 24 hours. Yes, it was posted as URGENT to get people's attention for help.

Not paying for service is a crime, labeled "THEFT OF SERVICE" punishable by law. Same as going to a restaurant and not paying.

If you want to get some reliable suggestion from some folks here (or even lawyers), you have to lay out a complete story. The evaluation report and the judge referring him to the hospital points toward either he was on drugs or he was on mental state. I believe he could not respond to what they asked him properly. Even the story you have laid out getting arrested at 4 AM suggests he might not be in good state of mind during that time or not sure at present too. 1. "One day he just left..." do you mean he left just to go and chill out around the city or left in the sense that even he didn't know where he was going. Where was he going at that time? 2. "asleep in the cab.." did he tell the cab driver where he was going? if he had told the cab driver the destination and that would come out to be say 20 dollars fare and the cab driver kept driving while he was asleep, then the cab driver can be sued. However if he told the cab driver to take him around till he says to stop, then cab driver is at no fault. 3. "calling cops and getting arrested part" ....the cab driver wouldn't simply call cops while your friend was going to the ATM since the cab driver was getting easy 150 dollars for a simple trip. Did your friends say that he wouldn't or couldn't pay? Could that be a reason? You said even after cops came, they gave him a chance to pay. He had no phone at all or he had no numbers of any one? So he came to you in Austin from Michigan without any phone contact? No number in his phone? He could have simply called the bank (phone number on the back of his debit card) to clear his card for withdrawal, or he could have told the cab driver to take him back to your apartment to be able to pay. Of course the cops would arrest him if he is not paying at all. Lots of things should have happened during that time for cops to arrest him. Either your friend or you are hiding lots of information. Even if you arrange a private lawyer, you have to have answers to those concerns.

To me this sounds like some made up story to raise the fund or donation just to get him out jail... First of all, cops are not that stupid to give him a court date for not having money to pay the cabbie... Second of all if it was just a matter of money and he hadnt done anything, a cop would definitely ask him to call his friends or relatives to reimburse the cabbie as simple as it is...this [Disallowed String for - No bad mouthing]cker must have been charged with public intoxication or disorderly conduct... Hell i've done some shit way heavier than this one on my younger days and only got 6months of supervised probation and 20 hrs community service... These aint non but some lying ass [Disallowed String for - No bad mouthing]ckers

Can you provide us his Full Name , Place of Jurisdiction where he was arrested , charge of crime and more details about the case ? I will find help for you but like others said ...we need the full story. Was he on drugs or not ? I do not care either way but will need to know. They will try to make him plead guilty but a good lawyer can whip stuff out for him. All else , if you doing this for money ...you should let us know that too...I will send you some "katoras" so you can do this in the street.

The story does not add up. For petty crime as such, where the bail is set to only $1000, he can easily call the bail bond companies to release him. The bail bond companies usually only charge 10% - 20% of the full amount ($1000 in this case), as such, your friend could pay that 10%-20% in the matter of weeks or even months. So you can get your friend out by paying as less as $100, I wonder how dumb you and your stories, just call the bail bond companies if the bond fee is an issue. If he does not have SSN then he might be in difficult situation as they will have to verify with the immigration before they can release him. All in all, it is nothing of an urgent situation, and you better put your facts and stories straight.

found the details on the Travis County public record. While the arrest is genuine, it's surprising that the thread creator has not been following up on this thread especially after posting it as URGENT.

if the bobd is 1000; just go to bail bond (any bail bond company) and get him out for 10% or 100 + bail bond fee 72.00. total of 172.00$ it will be a while before his time comes due to court being busy with other crimes

Yes, the guy {Nepalstands} with the screenshot is right. I didn't want to release personal details but if someone can truly help then message me, I will give you the last name and first name to search on - https://public.co.travis.tx.us/SIPS/DEFAULT.ASPX and also the online police report. I don't know the full story of what happened because he didn't tell me, that's why it sounds fake and unusual. No, I wasn't spamming or trolling you all, we all have better things to do. It's not a propaganda for money either. I don't know in which state he was arrested neither do I know what the evaluator thought of him during the report, the public defender herself said she was shocked of the report. At this point, it's not even about the money, it's about how he was referred to the hospital "for not being well".
