Roger Federer the most gifted, the most talented and the greatest athelet ever live on the plannet is going to win Wimbledon for the 5th time. Because of the rain delay in SW19, he has 6 days rest, that is why he is little bit of the rythem but he will win in straight sets and beat Roddick in Semi- final and beat whoever comes from the other side of the draw. Guys don't forget to vote Roger for ESPY award. He is nomited in 3 categories. The greatest athelet, the best tennis player and the best international player.

Good luck,

Roger

Go to the wimbledon.org or ESPN360 you will able to see almost all the matches. Or ESPN2 is showing it now or NBC at noon. I think NBC is going to show Roddick's , Federer's and Venus's matches.

Gasquet has the best world class backhand. He deserve to win today. He has never able to live up to his exceptation but today wow. Richard Gaquest is by 2nd favourite player to wach. It will be outstanding semifinal tomorrow between my 2 favourite players. I want Roger to win. If it is againsts anybody I want Gasquet to win but againsts Roger, no.

mta177, indeed Gasquet's backhand was a killer. If he carries the same composure to the tomorrow's game against Roger, I bet avid tennis fans won't be disappointed.

I was carefully noticing this guy (Gasquet) from the beginning of this tournament. He has a lot of potential to give surprise anytime. I have noticed too many other emerging good players in this wimbledon (both gentle men/women). Looks like next couple of years will be really exciting in Tennis world.

I have noticed something that I have failed to do it earlier regarding the change of clothing-color, from green to blue. I thought green was their official color and when did it change?

Tennis has always been exciting with emerging talents and the battle of new versus old!

Federer Drops Set On Way To Semis

Roger Federer lost his first set of the tournament – just his sixth in five years – today, before seeing off Juan Carlos Ferrero to keep his drive for five successive Wimbledon titles resolutely on course. In a match that began yesterday before rain drove them from the Centre Court, Federer triumphed 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 to reach his 13th consecutive grand slam semi-final.

At first it seemed as if the highlight of Ferrero’s day might come with the very first point of the afternoon. After yesterday’s rain they resumed the first set at 5-5 deuce on Federer’s serve, and the Swiss opened proceedings with an error to hand the 2003 French Open champion set point.

But any optimism Ferrero, seeded 20 here, might have been harbouring was wiped out immediately when successive aces helped Federer to hold. In the tiebreak, a mid-rally netcord helped Federer make a crushing crosscourt backhand to secure the mini-break, and he closed out the set with his ninth ace of the match so far.

Perhaps that micro-wobble on the opening point of the day was down to exhaustion, because of the sheer amount of gear Federer must remember to lug on court with him this year. Twelve months ago we were introduced to his unique white blazer; for 2007 his outfitters have added long trousers and a vast gold monogrammed holdall. Moreover, the quilted holdall appears to be packed with enough stuff to see him through a substantial holiday. What does he keep in there? After all, he carries his rackets separately. Perhaps the holdall is his bag of tricks. No wonder it is so full.

Early in the second set, 27-year-old Ferrero was mis-hitting a little but held. Federer seemed intrigued by the strong Centre Court wind, as if anticipating how he might be able to use it to his advantage. Meanwhile, the score stayed level on paper, although on court it felt as if Federer was just waiting to break.

But at 3-4, the uncharacteristic forehand errors that allowed the Spaniard to come back from 5-2 yesterday returned to haunt Federer. Ferrero could not convert his first break point; on the second Federer sent the ball long. He challenged but Hawk-Eye could not save him. Ferrero grabbed the set with an unreturnable serve.

This in itself merits pause for reflection. Before today Federer had won 31 matches in a row at Wimbledon, and in that time a mere five men managed to unburden him of a set. So Ferrero’s achievement was noteworthy, especially when considered alongside the point he had to win the first set too. In his first-ever Wimbledon quarter-final, Ferrero had cause for small celebration.

But perhaps both players were mindful of the fact that no player at Wimbledon during the past five years has been able to take two sets from the champion, so remote has been the possibility of defeat. Moreover, Federer had beaten Ferrero in every one of past six matches. It was daunting stuff for an opponent attempting to talk himself into a winning frame of mind.

At the start of the third set, Federer’s nose was wrinkled, as it sometimes is when he is mildly irritated. At 1-2, the four-time champion duly put matters back on their natural course with a brisk break. He was shortening the points now, permitting Ferrero no time to out-think or outplay him, and he broke again masterfully for 5-1. The set was gone in a lightning 19 minutes.

Ferrero stopped the runaway train long enough to hold at the start of the fourth, but the Federer Express was on its way and nothing could halt the break for 2-1. Figuring he had nothing to lose, Ferrero became more adventurous and secured three separate chances to break back - without result.

Federer was notching up winner after winner regardless of the unpredictable gusts, and a gorgeous forehand pass brought him match point. Another forehand gave him his 52nd consecutive victory on grass, to leave his fifth Wimbledon title just two matches away.

Federer is the king of tennis. He has every shots . Gasquet is just a baby in front of Roger. I don't underestimate Gasquet but Roger is way better than Gasquet in almost every department. I think Gasquet's backhand is better than Roger's. Since last year they change the dress color from green to blue. I think it will be a good match tomorrow.

Haven't noticed that ........But man, 8 straight grand slam finals..has anyone come close to doing that. Surely worth more than gold! He indeed is poetry in motion (almost is like a cliche coming from me ) :). I do hope though Rafi pushes him to his extremeties. But i predict a straight set victory!!!

oys bro!
"poetry in motion" - well put!

btw, just to let you know if you have missed, several exhibitional matches are going to be held later this year between Roger and the former king of grass court - Pete Sampras.

while pete is quite a fan of federer's poetries, he claims that the game has slowed down considerably over the last few years and players are no more risk takers enough to come to the net and "play serve and volley". perhaps he is trying to point out the rationale behind federer's domination in the court. :P

here's an excerpt from the article:
In summary, Sampras doesn't think much of the grasscourt tennis currently being played. He doesn't sound terribly convinced that he - soon to turn 36, five years after he walked away from tennis after winning his 14th grand slam title at the US Open - couldn't still get to the net against these guys and put away vintage Pistol Pete volleys.

These guys would include the four-time defending champion, Roger Federer, whom Sampras recalled sparring with in Los Angeles this year and, as he said on Tuesday during a conference call to promote World Team Tennis, "holding serve pretty handily".

The "sad" problem, as Sampras sees it, is that players have surrendered to the slower conditions, the stronger racquets, the fear of risk. He has been watching Federer hang on the baseline, toy with lesser players who won't dare push him the way Boris Becker and Stefan Edberg and Goran Ivanisevic and Patrick Rafter used to chip, charge and challenge Sampras across the 1990s.

"If there is anything Roger doesn't like to see, it is someone coming in and serving and volleying, someone putting pressure on him," Sampras said. "I think my game matched up reasonably well against his."

I read that few days ago lOotS bro!

I think the former king of grass realizes that he is to soon abdicate his throne to the new MUCH BETTER heir. Hence, just like our country, trying out all the desperate measures to hold on to it. Never been a big fan of Sampras ;) but i couldn't help laugh when he kinda noted that he had a better all around game to match Federer's.

yah oys, i was not a big fan of his either. i think federer is more all-round player, anyday. however, the poetry as you pointed out, can have short verses if someone like sampras is playing against him, hoina? :).

talking of favorites, i used to be a die-hard agassi fan. i knew his limitations but his style and attitude never ceases to amaze me. what a man! :D

It depends on what kind of play u like. If you love the net-play, Samparas will most likely be one of your favorite palyers. To me, he is the best.. I simply love that man. I know that Federer will surpass Sampras' 14 grand slam record (if he stays fit for few more years- he is just 25 now). But till then, lets respect the records no matter what kind of play you love. Till then, Sampras is the best palyer. Bjon Borg was very great player but he cut his career short.
