Guys/Gals, I'm thinking of getting my h1b stamped but not sure weather I should do it in Nepal or Mexico. I was pretty much sure that I'll do it from Mexico but just got to know from my lawyer that if i get denied, I wont be able to come back to US. Any suggestions? Or is anyone going to get their visa stamped this year from Mexico/Canada/Nepal? Oh yeah, I could schedule appointment in any mexican or canadian cosulate, is there a way to schedule an appointment in nepal us embassy? I went thru their site but couldnot find . Help much appreciated !!

Yeah, after seeing AAAA post and ur post i'm thinking of not going to nepal for stamping. Heard during December it will be very hard to get an appointment. Well, I'll most probably goto Matamoros, Mexico. 6 hrs drive from here. Let me see when can I get the earliest appointment though. Thanks

TechGuy and MN_Nepali, Do not panic.. do not go for stamping if your employer is not good enough (Dhotiharu).. I had been to Metamors a month before and had really bad experience...it's because of my employer.. do thorough research on your employer background and if they have clean record with USCIS/DOL, then only better to go....

Sorry for delay guys.. Here are the questions those were asked by counselor in Metamoros: 1) For how long you are you working with this employer? 2) Show me your pay stubs. 3) Did you do master's in USA ? Show me your OPT card ? 4) Did you work in your OPT? 5) How many employee does your employer have ? 6) Are they all working ? 7) Have you ever in bench ? 8) Does the company pay you in bench? 9) Did you check your company profile (background) before joining the company) ? 10) Who recommend you to join that company ? .... your employer seems not good enough.. we need some verification from your current client(I am a consultant) and your background checking... If you are not working as a consultant, they will ask the general question (1-4) else they will check your employer background .. in my case, they suggested to get back to Nepal and get it stamped from there...(I guess, You guys understood what does it mean). Garcia is a nice guy.. call him from airport, he will come for pickup (save money $20). Have some changes for tips... Good luck

So did they allow u to cross the border from mexico to US after that? Or u flew to Nepal?
I heard if u get ur visa denied, you wont be able to get back to US.
Pls. let me know if I'm wrong.

I denied going back to Nepal.. The counselor contacted my current client and visa was based on the contract with the client... just for 3 months. (Lucky me). Yeah if the visa is denied.... you won't be able to enter USA, some guys say, handle the I-20 from I-797 at POE and Enter to USA (Some guys did in the past), but it will not work now, believe me.. Don't get dilemma, just sharing my experience. Good luck !!!

I am also going to Nepal to get my H1-B visa. Based on threads I have been following in this forum it looks like it is going to be a peak time during the month of December. I have three weeks between Dec. 1 and Dec. 23 to get the appointment and visa. Do you guys think this is enough time? Do the embassy give any priority for H1-B over F1 as they have to take a vacation from their work? Is there any form of priority appointment?

TG,
Did you/anyone inquire about followings:-
1. How many days we have to wait for appointment once we submit application?
2. How long do they take (hold) our passport for Visa stamping?
or anyone been through such situation-pls share your experience.
thanks

During Off-Peak time (Feb, March, April, May, October, November), they will give you the date after 2 week of submitting the visa application. So, during peak time like Dec -Jan and July-September, you calculate. At least you need a month vacation or more. No priority for H1. Don't waste your time and mind thinking for it. Thats it.
They hold your passport for stamping not more than 2 days, if everything goes well. Don't know if they have do some inquiry regarding your employment.

ok, during peak time it took me two weeks to get an appointment and during non peak time, one of my friends got an appointment in a week. they hold my passport for a day, but i went to pick it up after 2 days. ;)
so, one week to two weeks is what you should expect. However, during rush time, it might go more than that. also note that you need stamp from labor department in nepal, which takes at least a day if you pay some money to those brokers. i did nt do that though and i had hard time convincing people at airport. i never mentioned that i am working and so on, i just told them this is different visa category as USA has so many visa category such as F1, J1, B1 and so on and they let me go. however, it is recommended to have that stamp on your passport to avoid any kind of trouble at the airport. you dont wanna miss your flight for 3000-4000 rupees, do you?
