Who we are We are a group of fun-loving people interested in having unbridled fun and talking about the lighter side of life on Sajha.
We are unapologetic about what we say because we don't put too much thought into our words. We have come to learn after all these episodes that when your goal is unrestrained and harmless fun, you can only be so careful or thoughtful about what you say. We mean no harm towards anyone and welcome everyone to join the fun.
The Cafe series, as it has evolved over the weeks and months, is an effort to create a community of like minded people who want to have fun - or as SNDY likes to says - "be good and have fun". That is the only clause in our one-line constitution.
What do we do in the Cafe? Meeting, greeting and sharing is what we do a lot of. As well as singing, dancing, needling (one another of course), opining, joking and anything else to kill time. Not to forget serving and partaking virtual lattes, biscottis, tea, coffee, samosas, jalebis and other tasty baked goods that we take out of the Google Images oven. We've also posted videos, dedicated songs, confessed our crushes, talked about weather, food, work, sports - anything that is fun.
History History is never uncontroversial and ours too might not be free from it.This is version is subject to revision as members deem fit.
This whole thing was started by Hi Nanu and instigated by SNDY. Back in those days, SNDY had so many people to say hi to that she would go on each thread where her friends had posted, and say hi, regardless of what the topic was. It had a positive impact on the site, IMO, because it made conversations lighter and soon others started following that trend and we had several threads where the topic might have been something like the "Collapse of the European Monetary Union" but other than the first few posts, the conversation turned out to be about anything but that.
So one day Hi Dai opened a thread called "Thread for greeting each other". Little did he realize what he had created. That thread filled a vacuum in Sajha, as we saw it, for friendly conversation between people that was free of name calling, personal attacks and caste/creed/school/language prejudices. This was back in the dark days of the caste wars and turf struggles. That thread quickly filled up and reach it's maximum posts in a matter of days and another one was started. And then another and another ...
At that time someone jokingly (perhaps contemptuously) referred to us as the "Nautanki" group. We took on that joke and called our self the Nuatanki Briagade and fulfilled SNDY's long running desire to become a Brigadier. So there were several threads (or episodes as we called them) under the Nautanki banner. We got to a point where we ran the joke to the ground and thought it might be time for a name change. We figured a word like Nautanki can wear out after a while and we suspect it might have deterred some people, who would otherwise have posted, from posting on the thread .
We held a poll on whether or not we should change our name. We decided, by an overwhelming majority, to change the name. It was Juggy who came up with the name "Cafe N". The rest, as they say, is history.
Geography As of last count, in alphabetical order of countries and US states: Alabama, Australia, Belgium, California, Canada, Connecticut, Denmark, Florida, Illinois, India, Iraq, Italy, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nepal, Netherlands, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, New Zealand, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, UK, Washington,Washington DC. Some of us haven't disclosed our locations and I might have missed some so the list is probably longer.
Languages Languages heard in the Cafe: English, Nepali, Punjabi, Hindi, Newari, Sanskrit, French, German, Gujrati, Spanish, Esperanto and mixtures and derivatives thereof. The list is bound to grow as we plan to expand to all the corners of the world - although we haven't quite figured how. Politics Constitutional Assembly elections are slated for a some time the future, around NPL2US's recently announced wedding date. The Fun party and the Sun party are running neck to neck so we've figured we are in for some fun and sun regardless of the outcome.
But seriously we tend to leave our politics, class, caste, creed, schooling, religion, Indian idol preferences and anything that could affect the fun on the other side of our keyboards or for other threads. Thapap and Loote may battle it out like there is no tomorrow on other threads, but they've been good buddies here. How do I join ? Post something, anything, in the "be good and have fun" spirit and you are guaranteed to receive a warm welcome
TL confesses to her love of lipstick. Air Sajha plane with the entire Nautanki brigade on-board experiences a near crash resulting in several more confessions from others.
Cleo and Loote's virtual marriage, television shows and favorites foods like lakhamari, sekuwa, momo, Juggy's reports, amongst other things, are the topics of conversation.
(Folks, the above is just my interpretation of things done in the spirit of the Cafe and purely for fun. If there is anything you want changed, added or removed, please let me know)

Camo, npl2us, NKC, Captain - How are gentlemen of the house doing today? :-)

Hello people.. you would disapprove to know that I skipped 3 classes today and right now I feel soooo guilty about it!! Uncle L... You are totally right about loving family and friends part! Like a kid.. people totally tell me that all the time. My hobby- crying... not really!! Other things I dont know LOL.!! Would love to hear your analysis of yourself!!

Cappy, mi Amigo! Donde esta? Everyone misses you!!
mav, Flippy, Npl, Udashi... how are you people doing??
When you have to go back a couple of pages to figure out what you've missed, and flip between two tabs on Firefox to make sure you address everyone, I guess it means you've been away for a while:). Except that one day seems to be a lifetime in Sajha time. I was here earlier this week with plenty of time on my hands and there wasn't much activity. But today, just the day that I get inundated, my goodness, this place is on fire! he he. Looks like I need to go away more often and then come back later and catch the fun ...ha ha

So Loote finally shows up and spends time here, huh? Just when I am not around feeding into Shirish dat sabs conspiracy theory. Loote, I realized there is something you and I share in common, which I'll save us the embarassment of revealing here, and if Shirish dact sab finds out, he will go ecstatic! ha ha
Hmmm ... so that's what you think of me? But why? re kya ... ha ha ... I'll give you 10% .. And I am not even going to try and guess what you might be like ... I got my fingers burned with Mav yesterday ... he he
Jo bi ho, achha hi ho. Mere liye bas itna hi kafi hai ... ha ha ... filmy, totally filmi huh?

Maverick said: It’s not a crappy website, ‘just the layout sucks’.
Agree that the layout could be better. Perhaps San bro, who is the webmaster and site admin, if memory serves me correct, should have a design contest or something to pick something
I have said this on other threads too but Sajha still seems to be very much in the Web 1.0 mould. The internet socializing scene has shifted from talking about everything with everyone to talking specific things with people you want to. In some ways, this is exactly what has happened on Sajha with chain threads like ours, Chautari, Another Song etc. Too bad the organization of content on the site has not caught up with this concept.
San bro is generally receptive to feedback and I think he will respond favorably to constructive criticism on this account. He certainly has made the site more content friendly by the Edit and Delete functions. I think the next step for Sajha is to make the site 'socialization-friendly' by introducing groups and organizing content in the Kurakani section and the main page around groups and underlying topics. Some of that seems to have started (and stalled) with the 'Friends' concept that I suppose is under development. In my opinion, Sajha has to move away from this bulletin board approach, which appears to be at the core of it's operational model, if it is to continue generating traffic in the future.
Dang, that was quite long ... he he. Hope all else is well with you Mav.

Flippy -
Is it already fall time in Dixie country? he he... hope you are well. Maybe you and Av should come here to watch the fall foliage and Lemon could take you around... ha ha ha. Three gorgeous women in one place ... what a sight that would be ... ha ha ha

(Dang, just realize how really loong this post got ... ha ha)
Almost forgot. Yesterday when you said who doesn't like oldies, I was laffing, because for a long time I didn't. Actually most of my life I haven't really liked them. When I was in my teens I found then boring and slow and then in my twenties I couldn't relate to the sentiments in those songs. Having hit the big 3-oh, I guess, I suddenly discovered what I had been missing ... ha ha.
Here's another one :

Last one for the night, an English 'oldie' that I always liked. I don't care too much for the cross-drssing in this and other videos from the era, but the number makes for a good listen
What i was saying that layout sucks. There are 5 -6 kind of bullets( those gif stars..in Rythm style-ughhhh) 5-6 kind of font, color size table borders are all differnt colors. Those moto "bring together..." all over the place... that smthing on the bottom is more than one regular page..i am talking about those natures.Functionality are differnt for differnt website. I cant compalin about this or that...but those are the small things which relatively dont need much time. to be frank with you ..in terms of layout crappiness this site is second to cybersansar... but its gonna take alot of stupid things to topple that ...lol
i am the Maverick..so I can be the devil's advocate
Cappie, Nice songs... Hmm so it took you 30 years to actually appreciate the oldies huh? I guess my dad's love for the oldies got me into them long time ago! Its funny because your song totally reminded me of my dad. he use to sing the song as.. "Aap jaisaa koi mere zindagi mein aaye, to BAAP ban jaaye!" LOL I dont actually listen to them in an everyday basis, but they're still good to listen to. Here's one that I totally love (the new version though!!) G night Cappie.
Well, I could not help posting one more time before I went to sleep. I use to listen to "I want to break free" heavily after I finished high school! Brought back a lot of memories. There's one more song that I use to listen to... not really an 'oldie'
great song Rhythm...Jagjit Singh is my all time favorite gazalist ...(if there is such a word :-) )...
Maverick--your observation about our friendship was partially true..:-) there are sometimes when she is hovering over my shoulder...otherwise..we are generally on the phone talking/ laughing to our hearts content about sajha....
Lemoney---yup, you guessed it right...we got a lot to catch up and mostly spend yapping any time/day we meet..you should join us too..time permitting of course..
Loote--Jesus! you were so on target about flips..that it scared the hell out of me..I hope you are not spying on her or smth..:-P..and as for mine...way way off ...hehehe
Cerine (kanchi ko buini)---disappear hune ta chance nai chaina ni...i might show up now and than like winter sun...semester has kicked off with loads of academic work to be accomplished...and loads of papers to be written...anyway, let me not start else..I'd go on and on...
Camo--the IT info was shared by flips..so had to confirm my doubts...anyway, how you doing?
The rest of the Cafeits--TL/Sndy/Cleo/Captain/Flips/Camo/Cerine/Loote/Lemoney/Rhythm/Nepalikancha/Hi_nanu and all---Good night and have a wonderful weekend!!
MAGA and all how do you feel about Trumps cabinet pick?
