Marwari community wants their representation in interim parliament

Marwari community has also demanded their share in the forthcoming interim parliament, which is to be formed after the promulgation of interim constitution.

Speaking at the national convention of Nepal National Marwari Council, its acting chairman Atma Ram Murarka said that the community, too, has decided to enter into politics and demanded at least two seats for the community in the interim legislature.

Deputy Prime Minister Amik Sherchan, addressing the concluding session of the council, assured the representation of Marwari community in the interim parliament.

Marwari community is a leading business community of the country.

The interim parliament has been proposed to include 330 members – 48 of whom will be nominated to represent various organisations and communities. nepalnews.com sd Jan 06 07

whats wrong with the monarchy?????.....may be he stepped in when it was too late to change what the corrupt leaders had already ruined. May be he had stayed quite for a long time and people still blame him for the palace massacre...........But that was his family issue..........King Birendra was a good man...too good and too soft..... but under his kindness and trust for the people the corrupt leaders destroyed the country and because of that maoists came..........The royal family had issues like any normal family did and it got that wide scope just because they were the Royal Family.....IT was a very sad occasion and very tragic..........Dont speculate what happened....its the past.....In my recollection King Gyanendra did step in and took controll and promised to bring peace and unity to the country........he sacked the leaders of the political parties who had repeatedly sucked blood from Nepal and her citizens...and I do not need to give you proof for that unless you are one of them.............But what did they do ????those corrupt leaders gathered his goons accused the monarch of denying their right............the leaders campaigned to the uneducated majority of the nepali people who had been suffering these few decade thanks to the false promises by these same leaders just before election...............Against the King whose only action was to sack these corrupt leaders...................Why do you blame the King And his family for whats goin on in Nepal and not the leaders like Girija and Gang and the maoists for where we are right now........................I cant believe people are so blinded by these leaders promise who has failed us again and again.............Yes the royal Family is loosing and has lost a lot of ground............you know why.....Because he wanted the best for our country.............He could have declared a state of war and ordered his Army to take controll as he controlled the armed forces of Nepal......He did not do that because he loves us and the country and he knows that voilence is not the solution and he put his arms down for the sake of us ....he avoided a war for our safety and peace.........This is why I love My King and My Country Nepal............

Madddog - I see no purpose in engaging in a conversation if you are going to be so judgmental and contemptuous of the parties. It would be a waste of my time to address what I see as an emotional outburst that is devoid of factual reasoning. Please make an objective point and I will be happy to address it.

But what I will say is this : it is that same contempt of the parties that you express that landed the King in the soup. Why not learn this lesson of history? I am happy that there are several royalists, one or two of my friends included, who feel the King should now shut up and stay put if he wants to save the monarchy. If the monarchy is to be saved, these voices of moderation need to prevail. Else, King Gyanendra will have only himself to blame for creating the republic of Nepal.

ok capt tell me one good leader that has done good for nepal??? Name just one and his good deeds for the developement for Nepal............Why are we in this current state now if you want to give me history lessons..........I know my lessons well...and how the leaders have failed us .........look at Nepal....it is breaking up in front of your face and you still have hope???... you know" HOPE " is the same weakness these corrupt leaders feed on to manuputate the people to fullfill their personal hunger for money and power.......and we still wish...hope...pray........
how humble and innocent nepalese people are ..............you cant even see the hand that has beeen stabbing you for years............and we fell for the blamegame palyed by the political leaders....and turned our backs for the only true leader of our country our king??................and as for you saying that the king has to shutup to save his monarchy...........I havent heard a word in any news of any thing bad King gyanendra has said since he stepped down.........he had power of the armed forces to shut many people.....but for our sake he gave it up.........personally if I were the king I would have declared a marshall law ...got rid of the political bl;oodsuckers and the murderous maoists...and then hand the country and democracy back to the people. as long as these blood suckers live ........Your hope will always remain nothing but a HOPE. LEARN something form the PAST.

The greatness of people is usually viewed as their weaknesses and therefore opinions differ. haddock sees Gyanendra's retreat as his defeat whereas the likes of Maddogg see it as his humble ways of trying to save the country from further disorder, Nepal will always be better off as a small kingdom than a republic nation with no destination!!! Sorry for a non coffee drinker coffee stinks and is pungent too!! Atleast you were able to identify Girija as one of the Hyenas I'm glad.

Maddog - There is so much emotion, venom and vitriol in your writings that I can't find anything objective to address in your long reply. I am sure you are a well intended person who loves his country but if you want to talk about the future of the country in a meaningful way that is more than name-calling, and hear what the other side has to say, I'd recommend you chance tact. Otherwise if your objective is to hurl abuses at your opponents, go ahead, I don't want any part in it. If you can so much as out forward a single argument without using such judgmental terms as "bloodsuckers" etc, I am still open to talking.

Dimple - I am not a big fan of Girija Koirala, Prachanda or Madhav Nepal but I am willing to give credit where it is due - even to King Gyanendra. My hyena comment was sarcasm. Politics is not about name calling for me.

Maddog-

"...and thats why I came to the conclusion that you are one of them or their next too kin.

That's all you could come up with after all these hours? I challenged you to put forward an objective argument and you have failed again and again which leaves me to believe you have nothing of merit to say. Why else have you not been able to put a single point forward without calling others names?

"I feel sorry for your ignorance.......

Dude, you are the last person who should be feeling sorry for me. If anyone needs sympathy here, it's clearly not me ! :)

"I can see why you support the blood suckers of Nepal....you must be those who benifit when one of them gets elected...I mean how can you not see how the political bloodsuckers sucked our country to destruction and how you still support them???"

My support for the SPA is issue based. That's much more than can be said of yours for the King which, based on everything I have read so far, seems to be based on blind faith. I support most, but not all, of what they are doing today because I feel they are best suited, amongst the current lot, to lead the country forward. King Gyanendra had his chance, and in my opinion he screwed up, and now someone else needs to be given a chance. If the parties screw up again, then they need their butts kicked by the people and I am all for it.

And, no I do not benefit from the parties coming to power. I admit my support is ideological perhaps to a small extent - like I believe in a pluralistic and fair society - but it is issue based for the largest part. By the same token are you related to or benefit from the Palace or it's supporters coming to power? Since you have made that accusation at me, is it fair for me to assume the same about you?

If King Gyanendra is so great and so popular and so right as you claim, why not give up the thrown and run for elected office? What better way to prove your point than to get an elected mandate? I am willing hear out candidate Gyanendra if he has anything of substance to say about where he wants to take the country. My vote is up for grabs for anyone who can convince me why I should vote for them.

huna ta ho
in the spirit of democracy - marwaris should be allowed to have representation.

But
Nepalese have been living in India for generations too - khoi ta representation - in the true sense not MISREPRESENTATION as in the case of ISKUS BUDHO. And how old is that democracy??

my tuppence.

Appreciate your sentiments.

My hobby -- one of many things that gives me the most pleasure -- is to have stimulating, engaging kura-kani with friends, colleagues and family members AND do interesting, engaging work that captures my full attention for a long period of time :-)

It is in that spirit that I wrote those pieces. And it is in that spirit that I will continue to think about different aspects of our Nepal, and will continue to share ideas and thoughts with you all on Sajha, Nepali Times and elsewhere, knowing fully well that others out there will agree/disagree with and modify/revise/correct my own thoughts, thereby adding to collective learning.

Take care . . . and more later soon.

ok capt.....I see your point in asking me a valid reason for discussion.........and I asked you to name me one political that has good intentions towards Nepal.....thats all I asked.
Isnt that a valid reason for discussion?? you give these political leaders more than 15 years to destroy the country's democracy and you exp[ect king Gyanendra to clean up the huge mess in months???? Now hows that fair???? you challenged that i havent put down any points for you to before I called names.......Sorry but I value everything I wrote a substancial issue to be discussed by any logical ....un like you because you copy paste my points and discussed them with your opinion which I find completely out of the topic and I find someone desprately trying to in a loosing battle of truth. you havent named ome single leader you support and you know who I support.........Or are you ashamed to name him because of his list of crime against the people?????..............It takes one good leader to change the direction of the country and unfortunately Nepal has none so far....................everyone prospers personally when they take the chair .......that explains the children of your beloved netas are studying around the world in expensive universities...........using BLOOD MONEY..............for me I have a feeling that you are a two faced .....dual personality..........over confident person who moves like the wind mill............................dosnt matter where the wind blows from.......you will turn accordingly.....and you know what I dont blame you because that is a great way to survive in this world....GO WITH THE FLOW............I cant......my values are too high to bow down in front of blood sucking culprits of our country Nepal.....and as for your last comment ...........what ever you are today is because of the shah dynasty that united Nepal and gave us identity and protected us from the two gaint invaders( read the History ok)...............he is the king and deserved to be treated with respect......
and for what his family stands for our Nepali culture and tradition is very precious.....and will always be a part of Nepali culture................tradition ...and history...............please dont disrespect that.............the king looks Good for our Identity................even if he is just a symbol........he will be for LOVE AND UNITY for all nepali People.........................JAI NEPAL!!!!!!!!!!!

.Thats why he killed his own family to be symbol of unity and love for Nepali people ...And Paras, yeah he will surely make one heck of symbol for Nepalese!!! lol
But these MOFO party leaders aren't good either, People sent them there to adress peoples issues, not to feed their blood sucking chamchaas...and see the dog fights!!
They are MOFO because country is our mother and they are raping her day by day!! I just wish someday, Nepal has a good leadership; maybe we young generation can make thsi difference!! These old uneducated wankers should be whipped out of country, and !!!I just hope I can be the part of change, change that would make Nepal more beautiful!!
BUT not without Democracy!!! Democracy and Development goes together, because democracy means people's participation and development is not surely possible without it!!

juggy I understand where you come from and I do respect your doubts as Paras has shown his color for being a spoiled rich kid again and again ..............what I point out that it is still a mystry for the tragic occurance that night in the palace and the truth is confusing and unknown to all so I dont speculate on rumors and you seem too intelligent to believe everything thats thrown out there for comon people to believe...........for me thats all based on speculation and false rumor..............I also belive that people can change as I myself was a brat teenager growing up disregarding law and family values going to wild parties , fights getting drunk and doing stupid things.............as of now........... it is my dark past and presently I contribute a lot of positivity to my family and society....who would have thought that.... I who was so out of controll freak, spoilt brat could be who I am today..............TIME changed me and my values........im sure you and all of us had some stupid things we did when we were young and wild....thats human nature ..............I am Praising the Symbol of the KIng for kingdom of Nepal and her history for love and unity..........juggy tell me about 10-15 yrs ago werent you able to go anywhere in Nepal without the fear of being killed ,robbed or abducted compared to now?????? werent you able to enjoy the beauty of Nepal? the thought that one nepali could kill another in order to get power in a large scale sends shivers down my spine??? where did all this come from................as for my knowledge this all started decades ago when the King gave the power back to the people. and the people elected politicians ruined it with currroption and false hope ........giving birth to the maoists which brings to where we are right now.............sad but true..............Jai Nepal

Maddogg you seem to know the core problem that is eating up nepal like a parasite, sure the higher your values are the better you can percieve. I also feel it is unfair that King Gyanendra is being blamed for taking the lives of his own family how low can politics get it sure is a dirty game, and politicians of Nepal especially have proved to be hard core criminals using threat as their tool to come to power and then have the audacity to call themselves the people's party!! My foot!!
Anyways don't you think so Captain " whats in a name that we call rose would smell as sweet if you changed the name" there is no harm done in namecalling it has come with us a long way!! We do that in our everyday talk don't we?? So why make a fuss about it?? it's just fine for the marwadi's to be a part of the new Govt. of Nepal if maoists can??Was'nt that the main issue???

RODNEY KING RIGHT AFTER LA RIOTS,"PEOPLE CAN WE GET ALONG ?"
Fact:- India always has ....and always will bully us. But if we retaliate with hatred THEN WE ARE NOT ANY BETTER thing will just go from bad to worse. But instead if we spent the same amount of time in TRYING to improve our interracial realtion maybe we might get somewhere. OTHERWISE WE WILL BE STUCK IN THIS SAME CYCLE OF CALLING NAMES, SPEWING HATRED, ETC ETC.

I went to school with one of the Golchas (as did Ashu). He used to be ridiculed sometimes by other boys with the derogatory slurs such Madey, Dhoti and what not. But I always believed that he is as much a Nepali as me, Ashu or any other boy in the class.

Now that he is a successful businessman in Nepal, providing valuable products, services and employment, contributing to the economy and paying taxes, why shouldn't he be represented in the government? I don't mean there should be a quota for a Marwari ministership, but I do believe his concerns, thoughts, philosophy should be heard just like any other Nepali's.

We Nepalis tend to fight amongst ourselves too much. We never fail to find fault on others. Most of all, we tend to take every opportunity to emphasize who is who and how one is different from the other.

I was frequently called Bhotey, while at school, though I am Tamang. The term by itself is not offensive, but the pugnacious tone and the implied connotation of disrespect that came with it was abominable. I often had the feeling of an outsider while growing up in Kathmandu, though my Tamang ancestors were residents of middle hills way before Bahun Chettri moved in from south-west.

So, I can imagine how differentiated, how vulnerable, how unrepresented people feel when they are pushed to the fringes of the society. If Nepal is to be successful and civilized, we have to be able to draw the strengths from and provide due respect to all quarters of our citizenry, including that of Marwari ethnicity. Diversity and fair representation, not monolithic hegemony, is what we need.
