Why is it that we hold sex as a taboo? What are the rules that define this superficial scenario that two people can't do what they were born to do?

I feel we need some open minded discussions regarding sex. BOTH genders included since ours is undeniably a male dominated society. Add to that peer pressure a.k.a samaj and a discussion about basic human nature is a fight to the death.

The human male is a hormone driven animal (fans of Sigmund Freud: High Five!). Whether you were born a Swede or a Nigerian or a Puerto Rican or in the Vatican, thoughts of sex is as undeniable as the sun rising from the east every morning.

But once the act is committed, people get judgmental. Especially us!! AND especially in a very macho-istic fashion. I won't go into women liberties right now as that demands its very own discussion thread, but I want to know about what you guys think about sex in general (No masturbating to porn does NOT count!).

The floor is all yours ladies and gentlemen. Use the power of anonymity to your advantage.

I think the theme is not that clear, what type of discussion do you prefer to go on about sex? What do you exactly want to hear from Sajhaites?

Everyone thinks - sex is essential as you agreed, provides some pleasure and everyone wants to have it with anyone including top models/singers, hero/heroines, etc at anytime whenever free anywhere if there was no problem. But, if the other side is not interested on you or does not enjoy with you, sex is not the sex you want to have. Sex is sex only when both sexual partners share some feelings and chemistry or attraction. So, any sex (at the trial) period before both the sexual partners deeply fall in love or feel for each others is useless and you don't enjoy it. Next, the social norms or rules are developed because sex with anyone at anytime and anywhere creates so many problems.

There should be a moderate view adn opinion about sex - something between Sex and the (Nepali) Samaj and Sex and the (American) City. Nepali Samaj is too conservative about sex and especially female suffer from it. American societies are too open and unwanted pregnancies are the problems; so many developing lives (fetus) are died by abortion every year, especially byproduct of sex (children) and also the mother mostly suffer and also a headache for father.

sex should not be treated as a taboo. Sexual feeling is a natural tendency. The more it is hidden, the more it gets manifested in some other form, sometimes the consequences are antisocial. For instance, rape can be said as an outcome of an oppressed mind with unbound sexual desires. Other grave psychological consequences do exist.
We, as a society, were more open and liberal in the past regarding sex. We have temples and religious idols depicting sexual acts or different sexual positions.
Sexual openness doesn't mean the right to perform sex in public. Mere display of affection should not be scrutinized.
Nepali society behaves as if human is an asexual being. It's hard growing up as a kid with it's a acute conservative social dogma for a girl and a guy even to hold hands.
I think people should take it easy when it comes to sex. If you hide it or deny it, it's like blocking a flowing stream. More and more pressure gets developed and eventually there is a big explosion with grave danger to the very foundation.
It has been said that an average person in her/his youth thinks about sex about eighty percent of the time. It has also been said that humans' use their mind only ten percent of what is their full potential. So just imagine who much freedom do we get, how much mental resources can we channel to other more productive actions, if we let go of all the hindrances and the obstacles that we and our society put on us. Is it some kinda conspiracy so that we do not advance to the extreme? that we only wail in constant circle, where we live in our meager existence? well it's open for discussion.
The bottom line is that we should not treat sex as some form of plague. We embrace it, free our mind, and live a healthy and more productive life.
-------
Peace

ctal: thanks for replying. What I want to hear from the Sajha-ites is their personal individual opinion about this issue. Mainly because of the fact that sex is such a hush-hush matter in our community. You have given good insight as to the pros and cons of such thinking. I would encourage readers to participate and share their thoughts about this.

It is hard for us because currently we are witnessing two oceans of thoughts mix and evolve into something new. East meets West has been a common topic of discussion for countries such as China, India, Japan, a couple of decades ago because thats when they got full exposure to Western thinking.

Now its time for Nepal to have those discussions as well because changes in our way of thinking have already taken place due to massive exposure to other communities. I am not here to criticize the good from the bad and would ask contributors to do the same.

I'm also wondering how we came to be this way, since our temples and places of worship are undoubtedly depicted as sexually aware places. I mean even the lions have boobs! Why do we shun something that we used to celebrate so long ago?
