Metro police arrest church blast suspect

Police have arrested a woman from New Baneshwor, Kathmandu in connection with the May 23 bomb blast at The Assumption Church in Dhobhighat that claimed three lives and injured dozen others, Tuesday morning.

Sita Shrestha Thapa, 27, a resident of Gyaneshowr, Kathmandu, who was arrested for her involvement in the bomb blast was made public through a press conference, Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking at the press meet, Deputy Inspector General of Police Kuber Rana claimed Thapa was a culprit behind the blast.

According to the police, the injured Catholics, who are undergoing treatment, have identified Thapa as the culprit in the incident.

"Thapa admitted that she left a bag with a pressure cooker bomb in the Church premises while the morning prayers were underway," police said.

Police is looking for Ram Prasad Mainali, the chief of Nepal Defense Army, whose involvement is suspected in the blast. nepalnews.com Jun 02 09
