The Nepal Army has confirmed that Nepali peacekeepers deployed in southern Lebanon are safe, despite reports of an airstrike targeting their battalion headquarters near the Blue Line in the town of Mais al-Jabal.
According to Nepal Army spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet, the attack did hit the area where Nepali troops are stationed under the United Nations peacekeeping mission, but all soldiers remain unharmed. He said the peacekeepers immediately moved into bunkers for safety during the strike.
Basnet stated that the air attack caused minor damage to buildings where the soldiers live, but there were no human casualties among the Nepali personnel.
International media reported on Friday that the UN-deployed Nepali peacekeeping battalion headquarters near the Blue Line had come under attack. However, the Israeli military has not issued any official response regarding the incident.
The attack comes amid rapidly escalating tensions in the Middle East. The situation intensified after the United States and Israel reportedly carried out joint strikes in Iran, resulting in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior officials.
Following the incident, the Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah has been launching aerial attacks from Lebanon toward Israel, further fueling the regional conflict.
Despite the volatile security situation in the region, the Nepal Army has assured that all Nepali peacekeepers stationed in Lebanon remain safe and under protective measures.
