Has anyone run into issue like unable to verify H1b info/i94 at DMV while trying to get a new license or renew license? My situation is F1 to H1b and my 5 years license that I got while in F1 visa is soon to expire and went to DMV to renew and gave the DMV all the info like passport, visa, i94, h1b docs etc. and they entered in the system but then couldn't verify the data in the system and had me wait for 7-10 days. They told me to wait until then and keep checking with them. Do you know if this is normal? Has anyone experience issue like this? How long does this stupid verification process take? I am pissed off coz my license is soon to expire and if the verification doesn't go through quick, I will be unable to drive.

@ zeepa: Do you already have your H1B document approved from USCIS? If not, this is a normal process. They have this "save case check number" issued and like they said, you should keep checking and once it says that you can go to DMV for the license, you are good to go....I was in a similar situation....

Zeepa, If you go to DMV before H1B start date, you will face that kind of situation.

@collegefootballrocks, I already have an approved H1b i797 that kicked off last october. They can't seem to verify my info after more than 6 months of H1b being active.

@zeePa -- waiting is normal but waiting while you have valid i797 is unusual. I had to go through waiting twice in 6 months. There are 3 steps in verification while you go to DMV. In the 1st step DMV people put your info in their website which has direct link to USCIS. If they can verify they will issue based on your current status expiration. If they cannot veirfy they will send your info to state HQ (In case of Texas they will send to Austin). Infact In my case I had to call Austin few times. If your state HQ can verify your info they will update in their system and send you a letter and will ask you to go back to DMV with that letter. 5-7 business days. If Austin cannot verify your current immigration status, they will forward the case to USICS and ask them to verify\update. This takes about 21 business days. In this case you will still receive letter. ANd you can go back to DMV with that letter. IN my case I had to wait twice. The last one I drove without license for few weeks and a letter and form from DMV so that if I get pulled over I can show them my paperwork. The issue here is that your recent i-94 fromH1-B has not been updated in DMV websites. Hope this helps..

@zeepa, if you have approved and valid I 797 and still you are waiting, it is unusual (as stupida mentioned)..
