I am having problem with my laptop, It suddenly shuts saying "operating system not found". Again I have to close and restart it and then it works. What is happening? Is my hard drive failing? What should i do? Any suggestion would be appreciated!

  1. Click Start, and then Run.
  2. In Open, type cmd, and then press ENTER.

    1. Use one of the following procedures:

    2. To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, at the command prompt, type chkdsk, and then press ENTER.

    • To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/f, and then press ENTER.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message:
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
Type Y, and then press ENTER to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.
    • To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/r, and then press ENTER.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message:
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
Type Y, and then press ENTER to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

use u'r windows CD to startup by changing the Boot options in u'r system BIOS and reinstall the windows .

If it u still have problems ,start up with a command prompt and type" format C: " then try the above process again. P.S Formatting will remove all your softwares, documents and media files.

Things to do firstly----*********if there is any files, pictures, documents that u want to save if something goes wrong do it now before you try anything else******* for that you can buy a enclosure from any retail shop for ur specific hdd 3'5 for desktop hdd(the one with pins are EIDE or PATA/ and the one without pins is SATA.) reminder for laptop you will look for 2'5 inch enclosure. And after you buy enclosure you put the hdd inside it, and it comes with a usb plug that can be plugged in to another computer for backup. So back it up and return the enclosure within return time which should be couple of days(u can make sure when you buy it).i think ur hard drive is bad(if it is a new hdd then it requires a format, if it is a old one usually it means it has gone bad)..tara to find out after that u can try to format. if you cant format then its bad. ani u can buy another hard drive on the side. format it, transfer the backup. ani pheri if u dont want to suffer like this..buy another hard drive ani **clone the hdd using acronis true image, which is very easy to use**..yo chahi in future kei bhaihalyo bhane euta drive always there ready to be used... Cheers and enjoy.Jai Nepal

TEAMLOGO, you computer is not sleeping or being turned off.. it is doing so because of the laptop's power saver setting.
click start > type power option  in the run > select the desired option.
dont worry... you computer is not messed up it is doing so to save battery power thats it.
