To the organizers and participants (Peace Rally 2010):
The rally was HUGE. I salute you all for the solidarity and an enormous step in this time of crisis. The rally had every member of the society. There were families, kids, respectful elderly coming together; it really is an awesome picture. My deepest respect to all. This is just the first step, a very tough one too but we did show that we can come together in times of need!
And so I was happily in my bed yesterday night, but I could not fall asleep for a long time, and so has been the case for sometime now. It might be that I was just not sleepy, or might be because of all the beautiful possibilities which is very much viable and actually peoples' need. I am not talking about forming a political party, however, yes we do need a formal non government peoples organisation who will actually work for the people as an aid in making politics more transparent to the Nepali people, taking those already formed peace deals or the ones that we might actually negotiate and interpreting them for the people, monitoring the progress of the compromise deals/other diplomatic solutions and making sure that they are doing what they are supposed to do or what they promised to do. If any political party, high level official ... are acting against the people, we take it to the people and let them decide through proper representation. We can actually be working as an aid to clean politics and at the same time monitoring their progress across Nepal.
I even have thought of a detailed structure of the organisation, how it will work, how it will represent people, how we can keep it separate from politics, how will the electives work, how can there be an internal check within the organization, how it might be funded . . . I will post a separate note/discussion about this whole possibility.
But say YaY if you think we can do this. And if you have better plans that will work for the people without getting into politics and working for the people, let us hear it!
Bachcha hundai padheko "United We Stand" bhanera. I am just reverberating the same words.
PS: I forgot that I was addressing this note to the organizers and participants of the rally, turns out its for every Nepali :p... Anyways, The way we can work about turning this into reality is, in short, 1. We have to be united 2. We have to stay united 3. We have to spread the word and get more people aware and united 3. Form a lobbying group for the organisation 4. Peace rallies such as these is a perfect place to make people aware and collect signatures if they support the idea and so on....
If this idea is something that might work, spread the word for now. Talk to people, see what they feel and possibly prepare them to support it and work for it in the future.
